North America Update

Genset Surcharge for Live Reefer Imports into North America

April 24, 2016

Dear Valued Customer,

Effective May 1st 2016, NYK Line will charge USD $200 for each use of a Genset on live reefer imports discharging at the US and Halifax, Canada ports. Imports originating from Asia, Europe, Latin and North America will be subject to this surcharge.

While NYK Line recognizes the incremental cost burden this places on our Customers, this charge will be implemented on a User only basis. If you do not use a Genset, then you are not charged a Genset surcharge. Furthermore, this surcharge will directly contribute to the maintenance and renewal of NYK Line’s Genset fleet to meet our Client-base’s growing needs for our reefer services.

Genset surcharge will be charged differently in the US West Coast, Halifax and the US East Coast.

For live reefer containers discharging on the USWC (Seattle, Tacoma, Oakland & Los Angeles), please send an email to NYK Boise’s Equipment Control Department (boise.eqc@na.nykline.com), requesting a Genset be released with your live reefer. NYK Boise will then issue you an invoice with the Genset Surcharge. After you confirm payment with a copy of the receipt and courier waybill, NYK Boise will advise the port to release a Genset with the live reefer.

The above process also applies to live reefers discharging in Halifax, Canada. To arrange the release of the Genset and the Genset Invoice, please kindly email NYK Halifax Equipment Control (domiciled in NYK Toronto’s office) at halifax.eqc@na.nykline.com.

For live reefer containers discharging on the USEC (New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville & Houston), the Genset surcharge will be automatically applied to your BL. Once NYK has confirmation that this is paid, a Genset will be released with the container. If you do not require a Genset, please advise NYK Atlanta’s Equipment Control Department (atlanta.eqc@na.nykline.com) and NYK Atlanta will remove the Genset surcharge from the BL. The container will then be released from the port without a Genset.

NYK Line appreciates your continued support. Please discuss with your Sales or Customer Service representative if you have any further questions regarding this advisory.
Sincerely,
NYK Global Liner Management Division
