Implementation of the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) in Hong Kong

Dear Valued Customer,

The amendment to SOLAS Chapter VI, Regulation 2 regarding the verified gross mass of a container carrying cargo (packed container) was adopted at the 94th MSC session in November 2014 for entry into force globally on 1 July 2016. “Guidelines on the Verification of Gross Mass of a Container with Cargo Packed in Hong Kong” has been published by Marine Department of The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and can be downloaded here.

Effective 1 October, 2016 “No VGM no load” policy will be strictly applied at all terminals in Hong Kong when IMO released Circular 1548 – 3 month period of a pragmatic and practical enforcement approach – is expired. We kindly remind all our customers to submit VGM via digital channels strictly prior to VGM cut-off for vessel with estimated departure date from 1 October, 2016 onward. Failure of submission VGM on time will result in container not loaded on decided vessel.

In addition, to facilitate the implementation of VGM, we have developed a page under Maerskline.com “World Factbook”, where you will find vessels effective from 1 July and onward under cut-off deadline.

We thank you for your support for Maersk Line. We will keep you updated when any new information on VGM is available to share. For any questions, please feel free to contact your local customer service or sales representatives. You will find contact details of our local office on www.maerskline.com.

Yours sincerely, Maersk Line Greater China Cluster
