Update on the Situation in Tianjin as of 8/20/15
Dear Valued Customer,
Following the Tianjin explosion on August 12th, the situation is beginning to clarify enough to provide some updated information.
First, all CMA CGM crew members and our local staff are all safe and accounted for.
Vessel operations have resumed.
Terminals and off-dock depots in Tianjin outside of the restricted zone have resumed operations. However, congestion, low productivity and lengthened port stays should be anticipated in Tianjin for some time.
There has been an increase in truck traffic within the port area over the past few days as the early stages of a return to normality begin. CMA CGM does not anticipate bypassing Tianjin with its operated fleet vessels going forward.
Export and import of dangerous cargo/haz mat containers remain completely banned by local authorities. A large portion of the near dock depot area remains closed while clean up and environmental activities continue. This prevents a complete inventory and reporting of cargo status of containers which were located in these areas at the time of the explosion.
For Chinese Import Shipments :
For Containers discharged before August 12:
Containers within the freetime period (4 days) that were on terminal as of August 8 remain on the terminal.
Containers that could not be picked up within the freetime period (4 days in Xingang), have been transferred to depots (mostly adjacent to the terminal) which are 7-8kms from the explosion site
Containers selected by customs for inspection have been sent to International Logistics Depot (Customs nominated depot for inspection) close to the explosion area.
Containers Discharged after August 12, operations return to pre-explosion procedures.
For Chinese Export Shipments:
At this point, with permission from Tianjin customs, exporters can deliver containers to the terminal directly within the agreed in-gate schedules, or via the off-dock depots as per normal operations.
All containers on-dock prior to Aug 12 were loaded to vessels last week. CMA CGM will continue to work closely with the port authorities and keep you informed about any change.
